Quality Improvement for SBCC Capacity Strengthening

Sep 2011 Producer/Author: C-Change, FHI 360

Summary

C-Change Namibia’s developed a participatory approach and instruments to improve the quality of social and behavior change communication (SBCC) for organizations implementing health interventions specifically addressing HIV prevention. Instruments were developed specifically for HIV prevention, with another developed more broadly for any health area. Both include two checklists and a recommendation form for the use of quality improvement (QI) teams. The checklists are based on minimum quality standards for SBCC programs in three areas: planning and design, implementation of group sessions and other activities, and monitoring and evaluation (M&E). A QI team employs these checklists during office visits and observational and support visits to group sessions, then comes to consensus on agreed-upon actionable recommendations on strengthening the SBCC program.
